Belgian Wind Turbines

Category: Monitoring Environment

Project: Bredekop Wind Farm

Location: Belgium

Client: Fortech

Fortech retained 24 Acoustics to provide consultancy services to monitor the noise emission from wind turbines operating at their Bredelop Wind Farm in Belgium and to assess the severity of noise from amplitude modulation.

24 Acoustic’s principal consultant, David Coles was a member of the Institute of Acoustics’ Amplitude Modulation Working Group and instrumental in the development of an algorithm which rated the severity of excess amplitude modulation.

At Bredekop we used our proprietary, patented, Class 1 Intelligent Noise Monitors to remotely survey the data over a sustained period of time. We were able to identify the parameters under which amplitude modulation occurred and Fortech then able to programme the turbine control systems accordingly to minimise the risk of excess amplitude modulation recurring.
