Brewery Square Cinema is believed to be the only Odeon in the UK with residential apartments directly above the cinema screens and, as such, represented a unique challenge from an acoustic design perspective. Retained by the design and build contractor, Leadbitter Construction, 24 Acoustics’ brief was to ensure compliance with all of the project’s noise and vibration requirements. As part of a major £100m mixed-use development comprising housing, retail, restaurants, bars and a health centre, the cinema element was originally conceived as an arthouse operation, but was ultimately leased to Odeon, who are known for their particularly onerous acoustic requirements.
24 Acoustics designed a solution featuring substantial structural isolation of the concrete slabs separating the different areas. Upon completion of the project, extensive acoustic testing established full compliance with both Odeon and Brewery Square’s performance requirements.
